Spinal Tumour Embolization & Biopsy

Spinal tumor embolization is a procedure that involves the injection of tiny particles into the blood vessels that supply a spinal tumor. The particles block the blood flow to the tumor, which can make it easier to remove during surgery or it may act as stand alone treatment.

The procedure is typically performed by an interventional radiologist. It is generally considered safe, and patient has to stay for only one day in hospital.

Spinal tumor biopsy is a procedure that involves taking a small sample of tissue from a spinal tumor to determine if it is cancerous and what type of tumor it is. The biopsy can be done using a needle inserted through the skin, either under USG guidance or CT scan guidance.

Both spinal tumor embolization and biopsy may be recommended for patients who have been diagnosed with a spinal tumor. Embolization may be recommended to make the tumor easier to remove, while biopsy may be recommended to determine the best course of treatment.

It is important to discuss the risks and benefits of these procedures with your Interventional Radiologist and to ask any questions you may have before undergoing them.
